Hi Geoff,

Thank for you kind reply.

I understand that the event ID 4000 does not include the diagnostic string
that obtains more detailed information for the event description. The
problem can occur in versions of Exchange 2000 earlier than Exchange 2000
Service Pack 1 (SP1). So, please install the last update for your exchange
server. For more information about this, please visit the following MS web
site:

XCON: Description for MSExchangeTransport Event ID 4000 Message Is Not
Specific
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;288556

The MSExchangeTransport event ID 4000 message is logged when a connection
fails for a reason other than a specific protocol error. Other reasons for
connection failures include Domain Name System (DNS) problems, connection
failures because the server is not online, and dropped connections when the
server is overloaded or hits internal errors.

As for those points, please help me collect the following information:

1. Can you reproduce this issue?

2. Are there any event logs related to this issue?

3. Can you successfully forward other mails? Did this issue occur when you
sent mail to other recipients?

4. Restart the server with the SMTP service, see if the messages get
delivered. If so, please refer to the following KB:

XCON: Messages Back Up in the Queue When You Forward Mail with Unresolved
Recipients to the Host
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;289808

5. Can you send mail to fred@galileosa.co.uk from hotmail mailbox?

Please feel free to let me know if you have any questions or if you need
further assistance. I'm glad to be of service.

Best regards,

Jerry Zhao (MSFT)
