Thank you for your post.
 
According to what you described, I understand that you encountered a
problem when using event view to check the event log in SBS2000. If I
misunderstood you, please let me know.
 
In order to isolate the problem, please help perform the tests:
 
1. Please right click the log, in the properties you could find the
filter tab. Make sure that you did not select any filter opinion.
2. Did it occur in all event logs or only in application log?
3. If the problem still exist, it might be caused by log file
corrupted, please refer to the following KB article to apply a hotfix:
 
829246:Event logs are corrupted

4. If the problem still exist after apply the hotfix, I suggest you
create a new .evt files. Please follow the steps below:
A. Run "services.msc" to open Service mmc.
B. Set the Eventlog startup type to disable.
C. Restart the computer.
D. Rename or move the corrupt *.evt file from the following location:
 %SystemRoot%\System32\Config
E. Set the Eventlog service to the default of Automatic startup and
restart the computer again.
