Problems with DNS

Hi,

I'm having some problems with DNS and SBS 2003 Premium. The problem is
that some DNS-lookups times out several times. After having tried the
same query (using nslookup from a machine running XP) a couple of times
where it times out, it always eventually succeed. Please notice, that
this only occasionally occurs (actually very rarely), and there does not
seem to be any pattern in the domains. Please also notice that I've not
experienced any problems regarding lookup's on local zones.

I see this particular behaviour at two different locations, each with
pretty new installations. Both of these installations are using a
single-NIC setup with a hardware firewall. I've checked that the NICs
are at the top of the bindings order, and the DNS of the NICs points to
themselves. The ISP of the two installations are not the same, which in
turn also means that the forwarders are different DNS-servers.

I've tried to look back into the group, but haven't quite found a
solution yet. I've even tried to the change the forwarders to some other
DNS-servers (4.2.2.3, as suggested in another post), but it does not
seem to solve the problem which could indicate that it's a local
problem? Could it be related to the fact that the DNS-server has a
longer time-out (I think it's 5 seconds) before retrying on the second
DNS-server than the client - and this matches the number of times that
the lookup fails from the client?

Does anyone have any suggestions of what to look at?
