I have several laptops setup with Outlook in cached mode. In the office when
connected to the LAN all is ok. When the laptops are out in the field the
users log on locally to their cached domain profile, then they will start a
VPN connection and use outlook. Initially all is ok but after a while, though
the VPN connection is still active Outlook has trouble accessing exchange. As
initially it works ok, is it an idle timeout type thing similar to exchange
disconnecting idle connections to non persistant mapped drives? The laptops
have win2k or XP, rpc over HTTP is not ideal as a common solution would be
better(eg VPN). I have updated Outlook to latest patches, though believe the
O/S's are not necessarily fully patched up to date. win2k are at least sp4
and XP is sp2, the VPN connections are box standard except I have added the
SBS LAN IP as the WINS server. Also on the server I have used the SBS LAN IP
in the remote access wizard not FQDN (servername.domain.local). Any advice
would be greatly appreciated.
