What "upgrade diagrams"? I find it hard to belive that they want you to
plug your workstations directly into a router. Now, if you only had a
single NIC in the SBS that might be true. But the point behind using two
NICs is to separate the networks.
Is the following how your network is set up? If so, you're only using your
router as a hub to connect the workstations to the SBS server. With this
configuration and ISA set up correctly, you're protected but you would gain
an extra layer of security (and easier network troubleshooting) by replacing
the router with a switch and configuring the network as I detailed in my
last post.

Workstations
The reason for your slow network access with this setup may be that the ISA
LAT isn't set up properly.
