Hi,

Thanks for posting here!

>From your description, it sounds as though you received the the error
message "line unavailable" when you send a fax. If I'm off base, please do
let me know.

First at all, please make sure your modem is on the (Hardware Compatibility
List) HCL. If not, we can't guarantee it's functionality on Windows Server
2003.
( To check the HCL, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/catalog/server/)

Secondly, we should make sure the fax receiver was not busy and not being
answered while you were making the call. Otherwise, there is no doubt that
you will be informed with the message "line unavailable". Outgoing calls
that are not connected due to no answering on the receiver end or busy
signals, will not appear in the log. Instead, information on outgoing calls
that fail for these reasons will appear in the activity log, in Fax
Monitor, and in Fax Console. This activity log contains two text files.
Incoming log activity is recorded in InboxLOG.txt. Outgoing log activity is
recorded in OutboxLOG.txt. They are located in the
%alluserprofile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows NT\MSFax\ActivityLog
folder, and the location can be modified. You can enable activity logging
in Server Management: right-click Fax (Local) and select Properties, click
the Activity Logging tab, and select the appropriate check boxes.

If you can make sure that the problem is on your side, please help answer
the following questions to narrow down the problem:

1. Are there any error logs on the conflict of modem device for the fax
service? As well, are there any driver problems in the modem?

2. Have you got any problems when receiving faxes?

3. Is your modem being connected to a dedicated line, not going through a
PBX or switch?

4. If you are connecting to Internet via DSL, did you install DSL filter on
the phone line?

5. Have you tested the line?

Please feel free to let me know if you have any questions or if you need
further assistance.

Have a nice day!

Best regards,
Jerry Zhao

#Having occasional issue with fax server. Sometimes faxes go through with
no
#problem. Othertimes. Get "line unavailable". Not event log messages
either.
#
#Anyone figure this out?
