Hi Mark,
Thank you for your reply.
Based on my research, it should be caused by a known issue regarding
Windows XP. Please apply the following hot fix to see if the problem can
be resolved:
872769 You cannot configure Windows Firewall settings or Security Center
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=872769
Note: Although this issue is not exactly same as that in KB 872769, the
symptom is similar "unable to change firewall settings".
After applying the hotfix, please let me know the results. Thank you.
Best regards,
Cameron Ye

| Thanks, Cameron, for your reply.
|
| I am aware that the DCs propagate the group policies among themselves. I
did
| not go into all the details for my original questions, which I should
have in
| the first place. I thought that maybe having a Win2K DC may be the
problem of
| why a change I made to Group Policy (using gpupdate /force after the
change)
| was not being observed on my workstation.
|
| Using Group Policy (changed on the SBS2003 DC), I had turned off the
| requirement of not being able to turn off Windows Firewall on my XP SP2
| workstations. I wanted to do troubleshooting on a new application and did
not
| want to have potential interference from the firewall until I understood
the
| new app's workings. Unfortunately, the radio button for turning the
firewall
| to disable is still grayed out. Have I missed a setting somewhere to
allow
| this temporary change to group policy?
|
| Best Regards,
|
| Mark
