I'm such a dork... Thanks guys you pointed me in the correct direction.
Turns out that when assigning the static IP properties the incorrect default
gateway was assigned (it was 172.168.1.1 instead of 172.16.1.1).

As usual appricat the assistance couldnt do it with out you guys.
