I am a Linksys partner and although I like working with their products
because I am familiar with them, I do get quite a few bad products. I've
learned to just send it back as soon as I suspect something wrong with it,
otherwise I end up wasting hours troubleshooting and loosing money like
billyw because you can't bill the customer $400 of labor to fix a $99 router.
Even just replacing out the router can take about an hour when you factor in
the time it takes to do the RMA, install the new product, and return the old
product. Although I have worked with all brands, not as much as Linksys, so
I can't give you an opinion of the other brands. I suspect that any brand
has it's fair share of bad products.
