Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

now heres something wierd that may help us troubleshoot the problem...

On my server I right clicked My Computer and disabled remote assistance.
I also disabled remote assistance under group policy (gpedit.msc)

yet when I try Offer remote assistance to the server the screen changes and
says connected... several users are logged on, select who you want to
assist... (let me remind you that I have never seen this screen before in
relation to any of my other computers) When I click start remote assistance
It says a program could not start... so the disabling worked... the deal is
that SOMETHING is stopping the original connection. Group policy stops the
Assistance connection, but the inital connection that offers you the choice
of users to assist is controlled by something else entirely. Its not a
network / tcp/ip problem since it worked perfectly fine from the workstation
to the server... its more of a service or program not started or something
needing to be reregistered on the workstation...

maybe this will give you a few more ideas
