If he is so unconcerned about offsite storage of backups you could ask him
when he would like to retire or go bankrupt. Unfortunately the most likely
causes off disaster are hardware failure (not an issue if he has any kind of
backup), theft or fire. The last two would see his backup disappear with
the event in all likelihood.
