OK here's is my dilema and scenario. Here at my company we use Act! 2005. My
boss is a big fan of Act! and has been since it's first DOS release. Which
means his whole life is in it's database so you can guess how important it
is to him that I get this database backed up regulary. With Act! 2005 there
is no atuomated way to backup. You must manually backup the database file
within the program and save it to a location where it can then be backed up
by an automated device. I know sounds stupid but I did verify it with Act!
tech support. Here's an added bonus for any of you who are using Act! or
have been thinking of doing so. They (the Act! people) do not consider this
an issue. Go figure. Valuable and sensitive data that cannot be automated to
be backed up to tape or any other device.
So what I found out is that if I stop the MSSQL service for Act! that I can
then copy the file any way I want to. So with that said I want to create a
batch file to stop and start the service so that I can use my tape device to
automate the backup. I would use Task Scheduler to stop the service before
my backup begins and another schedule task to restart it after it is
finished. What is the command line I need to create to stop and start this
service? Thanks as I'm sure one of you great SBS'ers got that line.
