John,

Something you might also want to look at/consider is that since you have SBS
2003 Premium edition, would be to upgrade the SharePoint SQL instance to
full SQL Server 2000 and enable full-text search

How to turn on full-text search in Windows SharePoint Services on a Windows
Small Business Server 2003-based computer
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=837367

Then you could search your word documents, excel files, and some other file
types.

Then check around for IFilters that can be added to then index say the
PDF's.. for example..

Keep in mind that when you upload files to Companyweb/WSS that they are
stored into the SQL database.. by default, the databases will be in \program
files\microsoft sql server\mssql$sharepoint\data directory.. However, they
can be moved using the information from the following whitepaper..

Moving Data Folders for Windows Small Business Server 2003

Follow these instructions to move one or all of the Windows Small Business
Server 2003 data folders.
