Hi,
It sounds like the problem described on this article:

272594 Problems logging on to a Windows 2000-based server or a Windows
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=272594

You can contact your local Microsoft PSS to request the mentioned hotfix,
there should be no charge for getting that hotfix.

The Windows 98 DS client also includes the updated file if you want to
install it.
