I'm assuming you've booted the server with the drive attached and powered
on, and that you're pretty sure the drive works. I recently had a little
trouble getting a win2k3 server to recognize an external tape drive I
connected while the server was running, but they eventually found each other
without further intervention.

I'd try the Add Hardware wizard from control panel next. Also, you might
check the Adaptec and Certance support sites for anything relevant - Stuart
might be onto something having had the same problem with a different drive.
If the wizard doesn't work, I'd just start trying things such as moving the
drive to the other SCSI channel, getting the most recent controller drivers
from Adaptec, trying a different drive to see if that one gets recognized,
flipping through the drive's instructions to see if anything stands out
(jumpers for example), and anything else you can think of. Also, it would
be helpful if anything you do could narrow the problem to the drive or the
controller, although it seems likely to be the drive since the controller
shows in device manager.
