What you are saying is correct. An administrators account did exist on the
local machine. (At least when I connected the machine to the server
originally). So what I will need to do is check that the account still
exists. Can you see any reason why or how the account could have been deleted
(not including anyone intentionally removing the account).

On one machine I tried using a password cracker program and it only found
the guest account and nothing else, which also indicates to me that the
administrator account was some how removed?
