Question, I humbly ask.
I have a variety of programs installed on my server, the
vast majority of significant programs being Microsoft.
For this discussion I will reference only five. The
first being the operating system, Microsoft Small
Business Server 2000. The second (family), being
Microsoft Office XP Professional (2002 versions of
software). Third being FrontPage 2002. Fourth being
Publisher 2000. And, the fifth being Project 2000.
I have purchased Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition,
Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003, Microsoft
Office FrontPage 2003, Microsoft Office Publisher 2003,
and Microsoft Office Project Professional 2003.
Here in lies my problem. when I took a look at the
Windows Server 2003 CD I determined that I could perform
a new installation, or an update! Update - great!
Unfortunately, I did not view the CD on the server - I
didn't want to take the chance that a catastrophic event
might occur, "accidentally!"
When I attempted to update the server, I was "rudely"
informed that I could not update Windows Small Business
Server, that which I have installed! Needless to say,
I'm not a happy camper.
Can you provide me with a course of action -- one that
won't require that I must start from scratch?
I don't need another disaster. When I first installed
Windows Small Business Server, I performed all of the
updates in order to be current. That which I do
religiously! Unfortunately I was informed, on the
Microsoft Update Site, that I had a driver update that
should be installed - it related to the Promise
Controller and Raid environment I have installed. Well,
unfortunately, that was "bad" advice! That update did
not apply, even though it stated that it did. AND, it
destroyed the whole system. I had spent many hours
installing the system, application software, and
performing all of the updates. The last update was the
driver update - and disaster struck!
I hope that there is a path that I can follow that will
allow me to do an update? Please tell me there is, and
how to go about doing things.
Thanks so very much,
Bruce, humbled
