Re USB drives: one concern I'd have is whether the server hardware can see
the USB drive (preboot), as opposed to the OS (postboot). If you were going
to depend on a "bare-metal" restore, having the partition on the USB drive
wouldn't do you much good if the hardware couldn't access it pre OS loading.
