Greetings Doug,

I will try to answer your questions inline as best I can...

> Do the clients point to the server for DNS?
Yes, the primary DNS is the server and their secondary is
external. These are hard-coded setting, as are the IP
addresses of the hosts themselves.

> When the shares become inaccessible, do they show up on
the server when you do a net share inside a command prompt?
I do not know, I have only gotten as far as creating batch
files to /delete and recreate the shares. I had the client
run this batch file prior to rebooting last this happened
(yesterday) and recreating the shartes did not restore
connectivity, the reboot of the server was still required.

> Is it all shares or just ones that were created in
addition to the SBS shares?
This is all shares. There is a share called "Shared",
another called "Programs", and another called "Jonas".
Jonas is the application, a club management package, that
seemed to introduce this issue. All shares disappear, yet
Internet and IP reachability (ping) remain functional.
This is what got me thinking the server service may be
involved, like half-opens or something?

...More on Jonas. It's a very chatty application, admitted
to be so by the vendor. Running it's own database with
lots of little files being open on over a dozen
workstations at the same time, stuff like that. The former
app was SQL-based and we had no issue such as this. I have
three (3) Cisco 2950's connecting everything so I can be
pretty sure it's not a "bad host". The server is on GigE
with all others on FastE. Very few machines show any
errors and the server port itself is immaculate,
absolutely no errors. Antivirus has been configured to
exclude the Jonas application.

I have a few ?'s for you:

1. If we are no longer using SQL Server should I uninstall
it?

2. Your thoughts on adding a stop/start on the server
service to a batch file so the client can troubleshoot.

3. Though there is no distinct pattern (every few days,
but twice in the last 4 days) it seems like it may be some
sort of file lock or potential resource issue. Going
beyond files/buffers on the workstation side what else can
we do on the server side to tweak this? I recall having to
increase file locks and connections on Netware many times
in the past.

4. Would it help if I sent some config info directly from
the server and/or had your support site scan for whatever
may be useful to you?

5. Why would there be no event log entry for this? Is
there a way I can "adjust" for greater detail while we are
debugging this?

6. I started to open a case online for professional
support ($99.) yesterday, the site took my credit card
info but I never got past the form where the detail is
added. Who should I contact to get this clarified (have I
been billed, is a case open, etc...)

Thank You again!

I look forward to your reply.

~Mark
