not sure if this is an issue or not but
even on my 4.5 boxes...server name was fulfordhomes01
mx record showed
A fulfordhomes01.fulfordhomes.com 123.456.789.213
MX 10 fulfordhomes01.fulfordhomes.com

(format may be off, but you get the idea)

Not a DNS "expert" but thats the way I've always done it
