We always used to use Norton / Symantec Corporate Edition or whatever it is
called now, but no more. It is way to expensive and also their licensing
means that if you buy 1 year subscription, and do not renew after that time,
you are not allowed virus updates anymore, making the software effectively
useless.
We have now moved to CA eTrust 7. I was not a big fan of CA (bad Arcserve
experiances years ago in my Novell days) but while at a large Financial
Organisation who were using this product I really got to like it and hence
have moved all our customers over to it.
In the UK for low numbers of users you are looking at around £20 per node
and that also includes the Microsoft Exchange addin. Compare that to I think
around £480 for the equivalent 10 users Symantec package - a huge saving.
Then even better the renewal for the maintenance at curent prices is I think
about £10 per node - Symantec always wanted near on the full price again for
subsequent years. if you did it year by year.
Plus CA have told me that if you do not renew your maintenance then you are
still allowed virus pattern updates for the life of the product. Try and get
the per license agreement rather than a boxed product though - it has the
maintenance with it.
The CA product has a great and easy to install central admin console that
you can also access via the antivirus console on your PC if you set it up
right. It allows a tree of the organisation and you can allow different PCs
different profiles if required.
You can also push down (Remote Install) the Antivirus software to PCs easily
as well.
We have also found the CA support good as well - they actually give you a UK
number to call if you have problems. Being in the UK I could never get
through to Norton - they only published US phone numbers for help.
You can get a free 30 day trial version to allow you to install and test
before making up your mind.
That is my experience anyway, but please check out details for yourself
before committing to anything.
