Both master on separate cables is optimal. Every access in ATA is exclusive
on an ATA cable today. Every RAID 1 write and often during reads both HDs
get accessed simultaneously. One of the HD accesses will always have to
wait.

So use the mobo's ATA controllers and SBS2003's intrinsic SW RAID 1..

Probably.
