I'm not sure I entirely believe Trend on this one ;-).
But there are a couple of points of interest.
Perhaps it was co-incidence, but - I recently decided to disable attachment
blocking in SBS, and turn it over exclusively to Trend. Additionally, I
wanted virus infected email, attachments, and eManager filtered email
notifications etc. *not* delivered to mailboxes. But the mailboxes were
still getting delivery with 'removed attachment' notices, etc.
In poking around Trend's site, I noticed a hotfix and started checking some
file versions. It became apparrent that some bits currently installed were
older than what is currently downloadable from Trend's web site. Low and
behold, in the 'updates' section of the web site, there is an update
available for C/S/M, with a May 2004 date IIRC. As the currently installed
CSM pre-dates that by at least 6 months, I downloaded and ran the update.
Basically, it's a complete re-install of CSM for SMB, but it's 'over the
top'. No settings needed to be specified, and no settings or configurations
were lost. Running the installer informed 'an older version of Officescan is
detected, do you want to update it?' to which I said 'yes'.
Same thing with the Scanmail and eManager components.
Now the filtered and infected attachment emails are not delivered to the
mailboxes. This may have been as a result of one of two things:
a) a re-install of CSM subsequent to Exchange SP1.
b) newer bits in the CSM suite.
In any case, my experience is that an 'uninstall-reinstall' is not required,
and a reinstall is quite painless allthough it does take some time as the
entire suite is 'renewed'. If your CSM is older than the available update,
then my suggestion would be to download that and run it - otherwise just do
a reinstall.
Of course, if everything is working the way you want, then why do anything
at all :-).
