RAID SHOULD have been setup from the start b/c now it is too late to do h/w
RAID on your SYSTEM drive. Backing up to disks instead of tape is not ideal
or recommended. I would reconsider some of what you are doing.

First, if you are going to do RAID1 after the install then it sounds like
s/w RAID and that is NOT recommended.

Second, cost and reliability point to tape. a 20/40 external DLT can be had
for about $75 and is VERY fast and VERY reliable. HD have an 18 month MTBF,
easily have data damage when moved compared to tape, b/c drives are easiliy
accessible are vulnerable to hacks and viruses. It is much BIGGER than a
tape and if you too a GOOD rotation schedule...costly. If you can get tapes
for $20 you can do a proper 23 tape rotation (daily, weekly, monthly,
annual).
