I have a couple of questions about maintenance and monitoring.
A typical day for me is to get the performance report every morning and to
get the usage report once every other week. I look these over and anything
unusual I look into. One question is, is it normal for the admin account to
be sending out like 400 - 500 emails every two weeks. I believe these are
undeliverable message emails but am not sure.
I also log on the the server every once and a while and check the isa logs
and my queues in the exchange server to make sure everything is ok.
Extra steps I have taken are to enable email alerts for ip spoofing and
intrusion detection on ISA server. I also set email alerts for exchange
service status, disk space usage and smtp queue growth. What do you guys
recommend for time limits on the queue growth?
I have antivirus for exchange and server and workstations updating every 15
minutes. and as far as I can tell everything is closed up (This is the first
server the company has had and I was elected to set it up), we have ISA and
a cisco pix in front of that. The only ports open are 4125, 443, 444, 25,
3389 (for connecting from a mac (-: I just don't want to get infected or
hacked and not know about it.
If you have any suggestions I would appreciate it. Sorry for the long post.
Bryant
