A thought out of the blue ... does this XP have a USB scanner or fax
attached or some other USB device?
If so, disconnect the USB device and then reboot and see if it comes up
faster. I just remebered one of my customers had this issue of slow logon,
and there was a Microsoft KB article about USB devices interfering.
