I've been using the canned scheduled back-up in Server
Management Console. It worked fine for about 3 months but
now fails every time, manually started or scheduled
through Scheduled Tasks. I know the tape drive is working
through a call to Dell and their app can read and write to
the tape drive. Below is a log of the event. I don't know
if the tapes are full because the media tools button under
the tools menu item is greyed out, like it cannot find the
media. Has anyone had a similar problen

Unable to detect tape drive or tape media.
GetTapeMediaPoolName failed. (0x80070458)
GetBackupDestination failed. (0x80070458)
LaunchNTBackup failed. (0x80070458)
NTBackup finished the backup with errors.
