you know what chipset my SBS runs?

OK, so I gotta come clean,,, you know that hiccup with my LoungeAN I had
several weeks ago, here's the story.

I've run SBS 2000 on my SuperMicro P6 SBS mobo for a few years, yep it's a
440bx chipset. Pure coincidence that the mobo model is SBS which in
SuperMicro model numbering appears to mean Single processor, Bx chipset,
Scsi. I have a P6 DBE mobo also, Dual processor, Bx, Eide.

Having received a copy of SBS2003 I eventually jumped on the bandwagon,
didn't bother with a migration, threw out the old and in with the new.
Installed SBS 2003 so that the OS was on a pair of software mirrored SCSI's
and DATA was placed on a pair of mirrored IDE's. Worked fine for several
weeks. Stopped working fine one day when I rebooted for no particular
reason.

So now we come to the fun, funny, and not-funny bit. I couldn't for the life
me, for love or money restore SBS2003 on the damned thing, couldn't get the
existing install running by hook or crook. Said 'stuff it, need to get
something up and running' so grabbed a spare IDE and started with CD1
SBS2003, similar problem to our OP. OK, so let's try a scsi, there's a
couple of spares here. Same result. I still don't know why the first install
went without hiccup yet these attempts failed miserably. I blamed RAM, the
mobo, the drives, Norse Gods, eventually settled on Gremlins cavorting with
the bad fairies who really run things around here.

So I'm back on SBS2K, same pair of soft mirrored SCSI's, soft mirrored
IDE's, same mobo, same RAM, same fairies. Stable as a rock.

I'd try an inplace upgrade but I've taken her down a couple of times and
even vanilla W2K3 refuses to install on her. and HEY, my friend the SQL
programmer has moved out, there's a few years left in the old girl yet. If I
can find a Slot 1 >800 CPU I might even replace the 500.
