Network (domain) connectivity issues

Hello Everyone,

SBS 2003, with WinXP Prof workstations:

I'm having some intermitent issues with logging in (slow) and staying
connected to networked printers. Since the effects are spotty I can't
give you specifics, but here are some circumstances that are always true.

Logging in: Sometimes logging in can take several minutes. These
Workstations are new PCs, when the log in isn't delayed it will usually
take 5 to 10 seconds. When the log in is delayed it always pauses at
"Applying personal settings". This happens for Users and
Administrators. We do not have roaming profiles set up. These users
have logged into the system previously. What other information can I
provide to help you understand this?

The other problem, more pertinent deals with printing. One printer is
hooked directly to the network, another printer is shared from a direct
connection to a WinXP Professional Box. Both printers will throw a
status of "Printer not found on server, unable to connect" occasionally
to a user (or admin) while other users are still able to access the
printer. When the status message goes to "Printer not found..." the
user cannot get properties of the machine, and can only reboot to print
again (and then printing will work well again for awhile).

I have a feeling that these problems are somehow related, but even if
they aren't can anyone help out? Or what can I research for help?

Thank you.

rj
