Confused one,
Sending and Receiving mail uses different protocols, so
it's possible to have support for one configured correctly
and the other not.
Skimming a few of the messages, I've tried to get a
picture of your situation and what your current problem
is...
Regardless how you pull mail to your mail clients, your
outbound mail should be sent through either Exchange or a
remote SMTP server. It's possible but rare for an SBS
network to configure an alternative SMTP server in the
LAN, so we won't discuss how that works.
<Sending through Exchange>
If your OE mail client is configured with Exchange (SBS)
as your outbound SMTP server, then you need to
configure "Anonymous" support because POP and IMAP clients
pass different credentials than your Windows Domain.
Note that if you configure the following, it does not
matter whether your mail client pulls mail from Exchange,
Exchange will send mail for all your mail clients if
configured properly.
Exchange System Manager >... > Protocols > SMTP > Virtual
Server > ... > Relay
Configure an entry that supports the IP address range of
your clients.
<Remote SMTP Server>
Most likely your ISP's SMTP server. Might be a remote SMTP
server associated with a mail service.
Because your outbound SMTP traffic has to cross your FW to
the Internet, you need to enable the SMTP Client (not
Server) protocol in your Protocol Rule(s) and ensure a
Site & Content rule permits access to the remote Server.
This should not require a FW client (as mentioned in this
thread) since by default SBS clients are configured with
SNAT support.
HTH and resolves your confusion,
Tony Su
