I just installed a Vonage box at home and I'll be
answering my own question when I take the box to the
office for testing but.........

Does anybody have any experience with VOIP in conjunction
with SBS2K3?

the potential problems I see are:

1. The VOIP box can go between the cable modem/dsl and
the router/sbs2k3 box. The problem is the VOIP box won't
allow VPN access. So, the only place i can see to put it
is on the lan side of the sbs2k3 machine. But, since voip
requires port passthrough to the voip box, it looks like a
sbs2k3 standard installation won't be enough, Premium with
ISA would be needed. In my configuration, i have
          CableModem>4PortLinksys>SBS2K3>8PortSwitch
I figure I'll try hooking up the VOIP box to the 4 Port
Linksys and hope it can obtain an ip address or simply
connect to the vonage site.
2. Bandwidth would be a problem. Each VOIP line requires
90k of bandwidth. Most home offices probably have 2 plus
a fax line. that's 270k if all three are being used.
That only leaves ~90k for an upstream using cable modem
which means really slow vpn or file transfers from the
sbs2k3 box. In our case, we have 6 phone lines including
fax. The only solution I see is to add a second cable
modem/dsl line with a dual feed router to even the load
and also hope that all the lines aren't getting used and
that nobody's connected to the terminal server.

Anyway, there's no real question involved, just general
musings. if anyone has used VOIP in an SBS2K3 small or
home office environment, it would be neat to see the
results....
