Outlook 98 will run on win95. Maybe the win95 workstations already have a
version of Office licensed? I'd use Office 97 with Outlook 98 on win95 if
that's all my budget allowed - I didn't mind it back when it was current
product, and it's got to be better than a typewriter.

That said, I understand the appeal of upgrading workstations slowly, but
you're going to want to be VERY careful about security, since there probably
hasn't been any security development in 95 or the older versions of IE for
years. I wouldn't bother upgrading to win98 unless you have it for free -
if you're going to spend money, you might as well get a current product. If
you have to buy OS and Office software, you might as well buy computers with
OEM versions - by the time you pay for Office and an OS upgrade, you're
probably at least 2/3 of the way to a whole new box.

I'm pretty sure that Computer Associates eTrust Antivirus will work on win95
(it definitely works on 98). You can download and install a trial version
to find out. If it works, try to get it through open license, where you can
pay for one license per computer (server and workstation) and use all the
features including exchange. I'm not sure about new licenses, but upgrades
from prior versions or competing products are about $15 US, and you only buy
the number you need.
