-IPCONFIG shown at end of message.
-Zyxel Prestige 600 DSL modem using PPPoE. Note that I never did install
RasPPPoE, even though I at one time intended to try it.
-I was never given information on configuring the modem by earthlink.
-I need to clarify (I misled you): at the very beginning, I *did* follow the
To-Do list and the standard wizards. It was only upon this attempt failing
that I began looking at other options. When I first ran the wizards
(accepting all defaults), everything *looked* fine, and I very expectantly
skipped over to the client PC, fully anticipating internet access just as I
had enjoyed with the SMC router. Nope. Nada. Even though the server was
seeing the 'net and the client had a good IP. At that point I deleted NAT
and tried again-- same result. Next, I consulted the MSKB and followed the
steps there. When that failed, I hit the internet for help. Called my MCSE
brother (who obviously misinformed me). When all else failed, I came here.
So far, nothing I've tried based on any suggestions has produced a working
shared internet. What I had assumed would be a nice little evening task has
turned into a debacle. :(
I should note that I tried getting NAT to work on W2K advanced server 3
years ago (before I bought the router), and met the same (lack of) results.
At that time, too, I went by all the defaults and could never the internet
connection shared... so I guess it must be ME although I don't get that.
Seems to me that if I'm going "by the book" the darned thing should work
regardless of the nut behind the wheel.
I should also note that running repair on the NIC connections results in the
error "ARP cache could not be flushed" or somesuch. Have not found a
resolution to that.
Anyway, here's the IPCONFIG. Gateway info is probably wrong because I get
conflicting advice on what the values should be and I keep experimenting,
hoping to fix this. My suspicion is that the Gateway info is probably the
key culprit in this failing.
