I've read a few posts in this NG where a user, configured with
Administrator/Power User rights, still cannot install applications on the
work station due to XP saying insufficent rights.

Last night I was finishing off installation of my new SBS2k3 network when I
came across this very same problem. This was evident on all four clients I
worked on. To resolve the issue I logged into the client as Administrator
and gave the user full control of the required folder, logged out and back
in as the user and installed the program (In this case OpenOffice, which had
been network installed on the server). Everything then installed OK.

Can somebody please point me in the right direction for something to read on
what is causing the problem? Is it something I have done incorrectly? All
help appreciated.

Regards Malcolm
