Did you install any devices for which you got a compatibility warning? I
was advised (in another thread) that installing US Robotics modems was OK
even though they have no 2003 drivers. Nothing happened at first, but then
I started to show many of the same symptoms you describe. They all went
away when I uninstalled the modem. (So far...it has only been a few days,
but normally I would have seen something by now.)

Modemless, but no longer suffering.
