Buy Norton Ghost 2003
Update & Patch the ghost install using liveupdate to the latest version.
Within Ghost "Backup this computer" - Backup everything to a ghost image
file.
Dump the ghost image off to a DVD or USB drive and make a DOS Ghost boot
floppy.
I've tested this process myself and it works flawlessly. Not only will you
have a GHOST
image to restore to the original server in case something goes bad with the
software. You
can also use the image to re-install everything 100% to another machine in
the event of
hardware failure. The built in backup you are making to tape will NOT
recover your
system from a total failure. But one benefit is, you WILL be able to
restore with this ghost
image and then use the tape backup to update the install to the latest
settings.
There are downsides to installing the server to another machine, one of
which is you have
to call MS and get an activation code. Your license does allow you to have
a single copy
of SBS 2003 installed to another machine for backup purposes. BUT - If you
do it, you
have to keep the backup server turned off in a closet somewhere. You can't
run both the
backup and the main server at the same time. It does come in handy knowing
that if the
main server hardware goes down, you can throw another machine up there that
is 100%
ready to go.
