What I meant with the second adapter is if I use that NIC rather than the
configuration I showed you it seems to fill in the same details, ie the
ipconfig looks the same, ip address and all that.
Some of the previous posts I have put up on this thread:
***************************************************
A problem I am having from day one, 3 Win XP Pro Clients on a domain with
Win 2003 SBS. I have configured the Internet wizard and one of the clients
can access the interenet as well as the server.
The other clients just get a really long wait when they try to go to a web
page then they get page cannot be found. I can ping internet sites and i can
tracert them too (either by IP or domain name)
I have took out all automatic detection settings and lan seetings from IE
and also have made sure that the compter is ponting to the DNS server as in
192.168.16.2, I use DCHP and that seems to work fine.
I can use Outlook Express to conect to this news group from one of the PCs
that cannot use Interet Explorer and have searched everywhere for an answer,
please any one and ideas would be greatly apriciated.
***************************************************
1) All the workstations have Windows XP Pro
2) It is SBS 2K3 Standard
3) Fresh Install of SBS 2K3 on the Server.
4) Dont have ISA (as far as I know casue I only have standard version)
5) One of the bad workstations is actually mine, so I loged onto one that
worked with the same username and password and it went on the net
straight away. When I log back onto my own it wont.
6) I had a look for this setting before and could not find it. It apears on
my
home PC which also is Win XP Pro but there is no tab on the LAN
properties to turn on or off the firewall on the workstation.
7) Apart from the Description (of the NIC), the IP Address and the Host
Name ALL the settings are identical in the ipconfig /all
8) The ipconfig /flushdns completed sucsessfully but it still doesnt work.
9) Conections Tab in IE are identical, there is no dial ups on either PC so
the Never Dial A Selection and all other options are greyed out. The
LAN conections are identical too, no settings ticked or filed in.
10) Tried switching the cales as you suggested in fact I even tried a
different
switch i had lying around, still no effect. The ones that work still
work
and the 2 that dont, well they dont - lol
11) The static IP and network settings didnt casue any change.
12) I have read that article before, someone else recommended it, but I
went through it again and it looks like I have everything setup ok.
Thanks for all that I thought one of those would have sorted it but no joy
unfortunatly.
***************************************************
Well I tried all that you suggested and when I loged in when I am finished
still no joy.
So I installed Zone Alarm on the PC that is giving problems and told Zone
Alam to make IE ask permision to go onto the internet. When it did it comes
up with:
Destination IP: 127.0.0.1 Port 1323
Application: IEXPLORE.EXE
Version: 6.00.2800.1106 (xpsp1.020828-1920)
No what I think i am onto here is that the destination ip should be the IP
of my server, 192.168.16.2, but when i block that action it comes up with
this:
Destination IP: 127.0.0.1:DNS
Application: IEXPLORE.EXE
Version: 6.00.2800.1106 (xpsp1.020828-1920)
no even if i let that access nothing happens bar the usuall long wait and
then the page cannont be displayed. I hope this sheds some light onto whats
going on perhaps what to do to fix it
***************************************************
So they are some of the things I have posted in responce to kind people here
asking questions. Its really really anoying. I just cant figure it out
If you have any views on why this might be happing or a way to resolve it
please contact me, I will furnish you with whatever info you want.
Thanks
Dashe
