SBS2003 Standard Edition

After applying the KB829538 patch as reccomended by Windows Update my
companyweb site has been broken.

The MSSQL$SHAREPOINT Instance starts.

I have unistalled and reinstalled the intranet component using the
server maintenance option and re-run CEICW.

The default site , OWA , TSWEB and RWW run, but from the server
console http://companyweb I get:

HTTP Error 403 - Forbidden

On a client I get:

Cannot connect to the configuration database.

In the event log every five seconds I get:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Windows SharePoint Services 2.0
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1000
Date: 15/05/2004
Time: 13:50:07
User: N/A
Computer: SERVER2003
Description:
#50070: Unable to connect to the database STS_Config on
SERVER2003\SharePoint. Check the database connection information and
make sure that the database server is running.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

The SQL Server Service Manager reports that SERVER\SHAREPOINT is
running for both SQL Server and Distributed Transaction Coordinator.

I have seen that other folks have had the same problem when applying
this patch and I am surprised that no one from Redland has given us a
solution.

Anyone had any sucess in fixing this issue.

Thanks.

Kev.
