The company has just purchased SBS 2003 Premium, which is being shipped
as I type this out. The info on licensing for this is really sketchy,
so we're not sure which way to travel with it just yet. There are some
things we need to do with it, and we're not sure how an individual CAL
applies to each case. Can someone help me determine how many CAL's we
need?
Web Pages: Obviously all served anonymously over the internet, so no
CALS required in this case.
FTP Server: Box will have FTP. There will never be more than 15 people
connected at once. We would like individual login name, password for
each of the 30 people but if it helps licensing we could even have just
1 login name and password that everyone would share.
Secure Web Pages: Our website will have a 'secure' section that you must
log into with developer info, etc. Again, 30 individual people may be
logging in at any given time, but it will all be under the same account
name and password. So we give each of the 30 people the login:
SecureTime and password: ThisPass and they each use the same to get to
this section.
Email: The box will collect inbound email. There will be about 7 people
who must log into the email server and download (over the net) their
email via POP3 using their own username/password.
So again, how many CAL's do we need for sure? I'm pretty sure that each
of the 7 people that must log in over the net to d/l their POP3 email
need a password, so that's 7. What about FTP and Secure Website?
And some questions:
* Does the 'remote connector' license work with SBS Premium 2003? If
so, does it mean that I can have as many people as I want log into a
secure site under remote connector as long as they aren't employees of
the company? Does it mean I can also have them logging into FTP with
their own account name & password?
* If we have just 1 user account login name/password for the secure
site, and the same user account for the FTP, can we then give this login
name and password to all 30 people, with just 1 CAL? And if so, can
they all connect at the same time to the FTP and the secure website
regardless of how many CALS are purchased, since they are using the
same account login/password?
* How does installation of a program like CuteFTP work, which my company
has already paid for. Say we want to use this instead of the built in
FTP server, and have 30 accounts setup there. Does it matter if we have
any CALS for people who connect to that software?
PS: Reply to group please, email is spam-free :)
