Hi Root
I too was concerned on this issue. I studied the getting
started guide after I saw many postings on separating OS
and Data on the NGs. My first Install on a Dell was a
preinstall from Dell and as a newbie I had so much trouble
with moving everything from C where it defaulted to D that
I slicked and reinstalled to a single Partition of C on
the next 5 servers. This meant i could leave EVERYTHING at
default. With almost everyone saying split though I looked
at the guide and the reasons they gave were performance
issues. I posted a question to Microsoft on a different NG
and the answer I got back was that the performance issue
was only a big factor where you had more than one physical
drive (not raid pair) because you had simultaneous access
to each drive. MS said that with only one drive that the
performance hit on one partition with one drive was very
small and I stick to one C drive for that reason. On a
Standard Server the defaults on Setup are not a big issue
but with SBS I find that Installs are much easier if you
let everything stay on C.
My opinion and I bet you get a lot more on this one! ;-)
