For OWA, make sure you're forwarding TCP ports 80 (HTTP) and 443(SSL).
Since OWA is installed with a cert when you run the CEICW (configure e-mail
and internet connection wizard) you need to allow TCP 443. Also, 404 is
"file not found" so you may want to verify that there is an exchange
virtual directory under the default web site and that the default web site
is running.
As far a VPN, if you're trying to create a PPTP connection you'll want to
make sure TCP port 1723 and IP Protocol 47 (GRE) are being sent to the SBS
server.
