For the simplest solution, you should go through the wizard and tell it that you will be running exchange...as if you were going to...that will cause the appropriate ports to be opened for you and then you can go in and "disable" the Exchange Services for now until you are ready.

Yes, I've tried many options with the Connection Wizard.
We simply don't want to use Exchange yet. Why is SBS blocking outgoing email when Exchange Server and SMTP services are not even running on the server??

Did you run the Internet Connection Wizard on the Server
This is needed to allow protocols back and forth
Have you considered using the POP3 connector for Exchange to pull your mail in and let Exchange send it out??

Network clients can't send outgoing SMTP email when logged into the domain.
Incoming works ok. Outgoing works ok if logged on with local credentials.
We are using SBS2003 as our local domain controller. We are not using
Exchange or SMTP on the server.
When using Outlook Express on a client machine, I can't send outgoing SMTP
email. In Outlook Express, I configure it to use our ISP's mail servers for
incoming and outgoing email like we always have. Everything works ok unless
the users log onto the domain. If users log on locally to their machines,
they can send outgoing email. When we log onto a client machine using domain
      credentials, we get:
The host 'mail.zeninternent.com' could not be found. Please verify that you
have entered the server name correctly. Account: 'mail.zeninternet.com',
Server: 'mail.zeninternent.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No,
Socket Error: 11004, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D
I run ipconfig /all when logged on locally, and logged on with domain
credentials. IP config is identical in both cases.
Why can't we send outgoing email? Is SBS blocking port 25 or something?
      Jeff
