>From what you're describing, I suspect a hardware issue
and recommend not waiting until the bitter end before
migrating her business to a new machine.
Although It <might> be a software issue, IMO it's very
unlikely.
Be aware that if there is a battery/related issue, I've
also found it can potentially cause disk crashes. So,
after migrating I also recommend a CHKDSK and other
general health checks.
