X: is not a valid drive .... seems like it is a red herring of some sort.
There's not much consistency as to when or why it pops up (over the past few
years), except that it's sometimes included when backups fail ;-/. I think
the real problem is occuring before that herring is written; it's a symptom
or result of something else.
