Regardless of how you are connected to the internet...the ideal and recommended setup is two nics.

The first nic should be on a private subnet and used for communication around the lan

the second nic should be the one connected to your DLink router. Personal opinion here is that you turn off DHCP on your router and assign a static ip to match the router scheme.

SBS handles DHCP/WINS/DNS for everything inside the lan.

So to briefly answer your question, yes the problem is your config because the router can't do anything on the network except hand out an address.

  Hi!
I installed Win 2003 SBS. When it wanted to Continue
installation of SBS it complained that there was no
network. I installed drivers and gave it a static IP
outside the DHCP range an rebooted. Then I continued
installation but, everytime I reboot it hangs longer than
I'm used with in XP/2000 at "Preparing Nework
Connections ...". Is it aleays like that with SBS 2003?
The only thing I've done more is to not use the SBS DHCP,
I use the D-Links DHCP instead. Can that affect,
  shouldn't do.
When OS is started everything works ok.
  Regards
  /Marcus
