Can you telnet to port 1723 on your server from outside the firewall? The
fact that it gets to the username/password connection before failing is
typical when 1723 is working, but GRE 47 isn't. Many routers support PPTP
passthrough and will route GRE 47 packets fine, but some have trouble (ie.
a recent Linksys firmware update broke this for some people). On your
firewall/router, see if you have a PPTP passthrough checkbox. This is
often what turns on the routing of those GRE 47 packets.
