On the first renewal < 1/2 of lease period > the clients try to go back to
the initial DHCP server. If they can' find it they will hold the old
address until 7/8 (i think) of the lease period and try again. It they
can't find it then, they will do a dhcp-discover and find the new one.
So are they actually failing and giving themselves 169.254.x.x. address or
just showing an error ?
You don't really have a problem until they start giving themselves the
169.254.x.x addresses
