This is really an application question, but maybe you can help me.

We regularly set up systems for clients, as most of you do. Since
customers are notoriously lax when it comes to backups, we routinely
install an online backup program for their critical data. This has eliminated
the tearful calls in the middle of the night after someone has deleted a file
and they have forgotten to perform a backup for months.

Anyway, we've been using the services of Connected Online Backup
for years and have been very happy with it. It includes its own scheduler
where you specify a time window during which it will automatically
initiate a backup. You can also perform an immediate backup by
clicking on "Backup Now" within the client software.

With the advent of Server 2003 and SBS2003, something has changed.
The Connected client software installs and operates, but only manually
by clicking on "Backup Now." The scheduler is set, but it no longer
kicks off the backup process like it used to.

We've asked the people at Connected about this, but they simply say that
they do not support servers. However, I think this is boilerplate since we
have this installed on many servers, and I suspect they say this only because
they don't intend their service to be used to backup 120 GB of data.
(Our backup sets are usually under 1 GB.)

So, does anyone have any idea what it is about Server 2003 that would
cause a 3rd party scheduling service not to operate properly? There's
nothing in the event log or anywhere else that I can find that would shed
any light on this. I've thought about setting up my own scheduled task
to do the backup, but I'm not aware of any command line interface to
the Connected client. We've also investigated other online backup
companies, but most of them are just reselling the Connected service
and use the same client software (re-branded) with the same problem.

Any ideas or tips will be appreciated.

Thanks.
