On the MS SBS2003 FAQ
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/sbs/techinfo/overview/generalfaq.mspx
the "question" is posed: Do accounts such as the administrator account and
services accounts need a CAL?
The answer I believe is incomplete, as it only talks about third-party
applications that create accounts. So that would mean BackupExec or
GroupShield Spamkiller service accounts needs one each, for example.
Is it the case that the administrator account itself consumes a CAL, and
then if you use accounts such as Postmaster or a non-administrator Power
User account for domain sysadmin duties, do these also consume a CAL?
Even some of the MS software automatically creates accounts (e.g.
SQLDebugger for Visual Studio .NET Debugging!).
A thought - if all these accounts are only needed on the server, can one of
the original 5 off CALs be used as a Device CAL?
