Re: Losing printer each day

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

It more like name resolution issue instead of switching T1 line. Any error if running nslookup? Also post the result of net share in the computer when connecting to the printer.

We have some computers that seem to either lose or are very slow connecting
to a small HP LaserJet 1320 printer. This has been happening since we
switched to our T1 line at the beginning of the years.

Our network has one Windows Server 2003 Standard server, 5-60 Win XP
ServicePack2 and ServicePack 3 workstations. Some guests come in and use a
login, not the windows guest login, but one I created. It has strict
restrictions in group policy. No group policy setting affects printers for
the login.

We have about 19 switchs and hubs on the network and recently switched to a
T1 line hosted by a well known and respected company. THe DNS was taken from
our server and is now run by that company offsite. We use a router supplied
by the company which assigns IP addresses in the 192.168.1.x range

Some of our switches are 24 port Linksys and Dlink. The hubs are older 3COM
models. A number of the switches are 4 or 6 port linksys (probably designed
more for home use.)

Most of this was setup before I got here.

These guest computers should be set to the default HP printer each morning
for the login. The woman managing the room says that a few of the PCs in
that room lose the HP printer each morning so she has to readd it.

I tried logging in as the user and found that the computer seemed to be slow
attaching to the printer. I tried printing to it but couldn't initially,
getting a message from MS Word about it. After 15-20 seconds, I could print
to it. Windows printed a test page well.

We are also not seeing the increased speed of the T1 line.

Any ideas?
